Parenting at it's finest....

Do you know what spoiled milk tastes like? Yeah, me neither. But Mason does! He's only been drinking it for 3 days now. Mother of the year, right here. 6th year straight. Thank you! What an honor...

Don't look at me like that! I didn't know!! He may or may not have been complaining about the taste of it for the last few days...and he may or may not have told me it smelled sour. But that's neither here nor there. I had JUST bought the dang milk!! (Side note: organic milk is NOT cheap!) There was no way it could be sour already!! Well apparently there was. Because after an adamant refusal from my demon spawn to drink his milk I decided to take a whiff and PEEEEYOUUU!

UGHHH I'm pretty sure that rank cow's goodness singed my nostrils. You could practically chew the stench it was so thick. Ok, so it was a little spoiled. For the record, the expiration date on the jug was clearly legible hard to read. How was I supposed to know that was a 4 and not a 9?? To my defense I'm lactose intolerant, so I never drink the stuff. I had no clue!! Maybe next time he should tell me. HAHAHAAAA!!!!! That's what the little terd gets! I mean...ahem...lesson learned.

But that does explain the raging mudbutt he had....Oooops.

Mother of the year, folks.

Mother of the year....

  2. *clap* *clap* HOOORAY! 6th year in a row! Oh I am so proud!

on another note...ICK, just thinking about it makes me want to barf...always makes me wonder about when I am pouring milk and I swear you see like a clump drop into the glass and then you are like...WAIT...was that? hmmm

  4. Hehehehe! This make me feel so much better about my daughter drinking fermented apple juice for a week. She kept saying that it tasted spicey, mind you that we were going through a very bad picky stage. I kept telling her stop whining and drink her juice. Then finally she said that the juice tasted kind of like sprite and it dawned on me that our harmless jug of apple juice had turned to hard apple cider and my daughter probably wouldn't be able to pass a breathalizer.

  6. Poor little Mason. So abused. SO. ABUSED.

You tell him Auntie Brandee is gonna whip his Momma for that and she will make sure that he doesn't have to drink that Gack! ever again!

  7. So, that almost beats out the time I gave Sassy Gal apple juice...for weeks and she kept barfing..couldn't figure it out..then looked at the green stuff floating ON TOP of the juice...forgot to refrigerate it. Hmmmmm...the bright side, she was too young to remember how her mommy almost killed her.

  8. Alicia!! Its totally ok, those expiration dates are totally out of whack anyway. Either way you are really just building up his immunity ;) Defense play baby!! YAY!! ;) ha.

  9. Hey, it's okay. It happens. Don't beat yourself up over it. You're a great mother. Tell me, who doesn't make mistakes?

Dropped in from SITS. Have a good day!

  12. Honey if that's the worst thing Mason has to tolerate, you're doing great.

  13. No no no! It wasn't spoiled... it was buttermilk!

  14. HAH!!!! congrats on you award girlie--well deserved (but I swear I could one up you on that one) :):)

  15. I gave madison 4 day old formula that had been left in the heat of the car. Oops. She never even got the runs~hahaha that's my girl! Stomach of steel!!

  16. I have this strange fear of expired milk and what it would do to my insides. Just thinking about the mudbutt is enough to deter me from drinking it even 1 day after the expiration date. Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh no!!! I am paranoid about spoiled milk...I personally think even the freshest stuff smells sour. :( I hate the smell of milk.

  18. awwww!!! poor mason!! i feel ya though since i TOTALLY did this not to long ago...it was a saturday morning and this mama wasn't feeling so well...so like she usually does penny made the girls cereal and then as i lay on the sofa dying a slow death the girls proceeded to cry and whine about it tasting funny as i yelled..ahem politely told them to just eat the darn cereal that it was fine! so once my Rx kicked in and i rolled myself off the sofa and into the kitchen i suddenly felt ill again as it looked like their cereal was being eaten with cottage cheese....hahahaha! poor things...thankfully this time they didn't listen to their mama and had snuck away from the table...then we had waffels...

  19. I have done the same thing.

Just recently, I made my kids eat spoiled yogurt.

  20. Goo! This just makes me wanna vomit all over again. I loathe milk. So gross.

  22. ohh man poor kid!!! i can still taste and smell spoiled milk it aint appealing!!!!

  23. I laughed.

Is it bad that I laughed?

I'm sure I will have a million of these moments as my kiddo grows. I was holding her the other day and she kicked me...shoe connected straight on with my pelvic bone. Hurt like a mothertrucker! I sternly said 'Kick me again and I'll drop you. Do it. I dare you'....then a little WHOOPS, sorry dolly, mommy over reacted. She busted out in tears and the bottom lip hung the lowest its ever hung and my sister is across the room stifling giggles. The hooker.

  24. I'm no mother but i'm guilty of this as well, except my kid is dave. He's an avid milk drinker. Me, notsomuch. I prefer the crisp, fresh taste of filtered water. You don't know how many times i see an expired expiration date on the milk carton and do NOTHING about it. Thats just how we roll here at the farley house.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Totally understandable - and if that's the worst mistake you've made, I'd say you're doing fantastic. :)

Organic milk IS expensive ... it's ridiculous! With as much as my kids drink, I'd have to get a second job!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ahhhh I feel so sorry for your little bugger! I don't know why, but sour milk is one of my greatest fears in all the land!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. A little spoiled milk never did permanent damage to anyone(I hope)!!
Tell the little guy it was cottage cheese, he'll be none the wiser!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hahaha! I cant count the time my boys have complained about stinky milk and I brushed it off...laziness on my part at its finest!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. poor poor mason! i feel for the little man. you are and will always be the best mom ever. oh and a hot one too!

    ReplyDelete
  30. This makes me gag a bit. I am a milk snob. I love milk and sometimes milk tastes off to me. Not that it's spoiled, so I am very specific. Blech.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thank you for making me laugh!

    Stopping by from SITS!

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh this is so funny cause we have all done it before...the oh just shush and eat it, it is just fine. Stop your whining!! Too funnny!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. One time my toddler found an old sippy cup with milk under the couch... SIP! HACK!

    Stoppin' by from SITS!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Totally not your fault... you should take it back to the market and ask for a refund. And then swing Mason by McDs or something to make up for the fact he was drinking a big cup of stink for the last few days....

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hehehehe...

Yes, I'm laughing. Been there, done that. My monsters don't even ask anymore. They just look at dates and chuck things themselves. (Let that be a lesson to you, Mason. Get big and fix it yourself.)

  36. One time I wanted lucky charms for lunch. So I went home on my lunch break and poured this HUGE bowl of cereal and dumped some milk in it. I took a huge bite and the milk was sour. I puked. I couldn't get the taste outta my mouth forever!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. congrats on mother of the year!! ;)
i have unfortunately tasted sour milk before, worst taste ever!! mason will probably never forget that taste, i was about the same age as him when i drank it and i won't ever forget. haha!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm guilty too, except I don't have kids. I'm terrible at telling how long things can last and when they go bad. Unless there's fuzzy green stuff on it, I just can't tell!

    ReplyDelete
  39. sour milk is NASTY! i had it once as a kid and have never (THANKFULLY) had it again. i am crazy about expiration dates. i am petrified of old or spoiled food, so i am all over those dates before eating or drinking. and you should see me inspect CHEESE. my mom used to just cut the mold off of cheese and it revolted me to no end! bleh!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Perhaps you were subconsciously teaching him a lesson in self-assertion?

    Sssshhhhh, yes. You were.

    ReplyDelete
  41. congratulations on your high honor. what do you get? a trip to las vegas where you can teach your kids to count cards?

    ReplyDelete
  42. OMG that is hillarious!! i would totally do something like that..

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's totally a "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" reaction. If they didn't whine and complain all the time you would know something was really OFF when they say the milk is sour, etc> so, it's really all HIS fault, right? Right? At least that's what I tell myself when I have done things like this... After all, what are they going to rib us about when they're all grown up if we don't make any mistakes!?! LOL "save it for the family reunion!!"

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm sooo dobing you into the authorities!

    ReplyDelete
  45. you're just trying to have everybody in the House of Cline hate milk so you don't have to buy the stuff anymore.
    kinda clever.
love u my wee rat of sunshine...

    ReplyDelete
  46. mudbutt? rofl! you are too funny! thanks for keeping it "real." makes me feel slightly better about letting noah attempt a somersault off the couch and less guilty when he's been asking, "mama, why my neck hurt?"

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey, don't feel bad. I was eliminated from the running of Mother of the Year when my kid started saying "dammutt" a few days ago, so we can sit on the sidelines and watch as someone else gets crowned. Great, great story. Glad the muddbutt is over. Poor kid! But, it was so worth this story, right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh my stankin' word, I swear i just chucked in my mouth a little bit! No worries, you'll do something even cooler(ahem, way more awful) than letting your kid drink sour milk and he'll totally forget about it! Gah, I can't wait to be a Mom.

    ReplyDelete
  49. As long as he's here to tell the story, I figure we're in good shape! Survival is key and he's done that!

    ReplyDelete
  50. raging mudbutt is from spoiled milk?? i better check my expiration date!

    ReplyDelete
  51. BWWWWWAAAAHHHHAAAA - that sounds like something I would have done! Poor little guy! Good thing he finally got you to listen so he didn't have to keep drinking it! HA! P.S. I still think you are worthy of the Mother of the Year title -(the good kind) Big hugs! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dude, I swear the grocery stores are pulling a fast one. That happens to me ALL the time now! My milk is sour like a week before it's supposed to expire!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Has never happened to me but I swear I read somewhere the milk is really good days after the date on the container.

Sorry you got a bad batch!

    ReplyDelete
  54. just dropping in to say HI LADY !!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope you bring that milk back and get a replacement for free. I've done that before when it went bad right away. But how 'bout you pulling the "lactose intolerance card" (I kid!)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have the hardest time smelling spoiled milk... I always make my husband smell it before I drink it because I honestly cannot tell... I am a freak!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Baby's been wanting milk, so I'm on top of the expiration dates these days. However, I'll accept my nomination for Mother of the Year for leaving a razor out where my son could reach it. He cut his lip yesterday trying to shave like daddy when he was SUPPOSED to be peeing in the potty. Fantastic. I guess I'm just glad he didn't shave off chunks of his face. Pretty sure he'll never touch a razor again.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ugh, chaulk that up to one more reason I HATE milk. :)
