Ho, Ho, and more Ho's!!

And no, I'm not talking about the kind Jesse James and Tiger mess with.....I'm talking about the kind that go with jingle bells and candy canes. That's right folks, I've got Christmas on the brain! 3 months to go, so much to do and so little time! I think its safe to say I have 87% of my Christmas shopping done...and I'm dead serious. I'm like a machine. Now the hard part is going to be keeping the gifts out of the grubby little hands of my munchkins!

But there's one gift that is on top secret lock down. I've become OBSESSED with it lately. So, since I can't keep my mouth shut and I'm dying to talk to someone about it, I'm gonna show you! You lucky little beasts.

This year for Christmas we're getting the kids a kitchen set. Its ADORABLE and I can't wait to see the Little Miss' face on Christmas morning. So of course, they're going to need the proper accessories for their new digs...courtesy of their Mother of the Year...that would be me of course. I've been sneaking a few minutes on the sewing machine here and there whipping up these felt goodies...take a sneak peak at a few of them...

I'm so very excited to be guest posting here for one of my favorite blog friends/fellow mustache lover.

Topic: Friends

Recently, Mama Kat posted as one of her writing assignment prompts; 'Make a list of things you no longer have in common with your single/childless friends and why you love them anyway.' This prompt, as all of her prompts do, got me thinking. One of the greatest joys of my friendships in the last year has been watching my friends transition from besties to besties who are mommies.

And while they are still super important in my life, there are things that we will never have in common as long as I stay single and childless. I feel like this is a common issue in friendships at our age (The age where some people are living the married/kid life and some people are living the sitting at home and crying life wondering why no one loves her...er......them...... this is just a hypothetical juxtaposition, mind you) and one that does not need to keep people from enjoying their friendships to the fullest!

The above quote is one of my favorite friendship quotes of all time, and just because our friends with kids have a little bit (or a lot) of Raffi mixed into their song, doesn't mean that we can't still have some killer dance parties!

So, single ladies with awesome mommy friends, I am calling on you!!! Put DOWN that glass (bottle) of wine! Kick off those expensive shoes that would cover an entire month's tuition at your friend's kid's pre-school! Put DOWN the microwave popcorn you tell yourself is a nutritious dinner choice (it's corn, ok? corn=vegetable=healthy, right?) and go hang out with your mommy friends! Don't be afraid of their little buggers! They're actually pretty great and funny!

Here is a list of my top four Single Friend/Mommy Bestie activities. Enjoy.

**note- Mommie Bestie will be referred to as MB**

1) Pool time= Tans for everyone! Don't forget the sunscreen. Bonus for MB- kiddos become more comfortable in the water AND they go home exhausted after a day spent doing physical activity and being in the sun which means parents get a great night sleep. Bonus for you: lifting the kids in and out of the pool/throwing the kids in the water/playing with them will give you a killer arm workout.

2) Girlfriend Movie Nights with delicious Mocktails (for your pregnant and breastfeeding MB)! Bring some of your old school kid movie favorites. It's totally fun to relive some of the oldies-but-goodies and it's good to expose 'kids these days' to movies that don't require goofy 3-d glasses. Some movie suggestions from Tay's VHS Library are;

-The Boy Who Could Fly (if you know this movie, then you can be in my You are the Coolest Club. I was obsessed with this film. BTW, there is a facebook fan page. You're welcome.)

- 3 Ninjas! (Rocky Loves, Emily. Rocky Loves, Emily. Light up the EYES boys! We don't want to HURT you....we just want to KIDNAP YOU!!!) I'm done quoting now. For those of you who are scratching your heads right now, my apologies.

- The Labyrinth (because what kid doesn't like movies about child abduction and frightening underworld creatures set to a radical David Bowie soundtrack?)

3) Mall Time- Kids love malls. Some have play areas. Let your MB do some solo shopping while you wrangle her offspring in the play place! Be sure to bring plenty of hand sanitizer and snacks. MB will adore you for letting her get some serious retail therapy done without the kids bugging her for churros. Oh yeah, bring money for churros. They're joy in stick form for mall going tots.

4) Bake Cookies! Kids LIVE for baking. Here's the trick to this one; do it at your house so that MB isn't left with a huge mess to clean up at the end of the day. While the cookies are baking, throw on a movie (see suggestion 2), catch up with MB over some batter coated wooden spoons and send everyone home with some fresh baked yumminess.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know I was totally against them...BUT...how could I tell those little faces no?? All I can say is, that at $20 a pop its a dang good thing that they LOVE these over-priced pillows! Not only do they love them, but heaven forbid I call them pillows. No siree, they are strictly PETS. At least on the bright side, our latest pets Toby, Buggy, and Buzzle don't crap on the carpets.

They drag these creepy pillows...ahem...pets... every where with them AND they've slept with them EVERY single night since we got them. And hey, let's be honest... I'll do whatever it takes to get my kids to sleep including benadryl. I'm not above bribery or sedating! Worth every penny....right Jordan?

I'm slangin' pillow pets...

So I've been sitting here trying to write a post all about how crazy life has been lately, but I keep on getting distracted....by these...

{They're a pillow. They're a pet. They're a pillow pet!}

See, these are right up there with Crocs. One of those things that I swore my kids would NEVER own...*cough*cough*...yeah, about that. I'm pretty sure that Boogie still wears his friggin rubber clogs EVERY DAY, much to my dismay. And now here I am at midnight searching the internet for these dang pillow pet things. I cave so easily.

But here's the thing...The Dude has been asking for one for MONTHS. Every time I turn on the TV I hear that friggin jingle....like nails on a chalk board...it's a pillow, it's a pet, it's a pillow pet! GAH! I don't know what it is about these dang things, but they have some kind of unbreakable hold on my children. Every time the commercial comes on they stop what they're doing and start staring...and drooling....and of course BEGGING. And not just a little begging...I mean the "if we don't get this pillow our childhood is going to be completely ruined and we'll go into deep dark depressions and live with you for the rest of our lives and become hoarders because we'll be too afraid to go out into the world because we never had a pillow/pet to snuggle with and you'll pretty much be the worst parents ever" kind of begging. No pressure or anything.

I mean they are kind of cute...but I don't know...you can't trust these eyes. Is it just me, or are they saying...BUY ME OR DIE!!!!!

Anyone else pick up on that?? I'm telling you these things are like crack to kids!! They just have to get their fix. All across the world there are children rocking in corners holding their pillow pets tight...getting their daily snuggle fix. It's a sickness I tell you! And I'm totally the enabler because by the time you read this I'll probably be at the mall picking up some pillow pets. Yup, I'm like the Dina Lohan of pillow pets...just getting my kids their fix.
