Swimming is over rated...

Well, its over rated according to Boogie. Last week the boys started swim lessons. I couldn't wait to get them in the water! It's another one of those parenting milestones that I couldn't wait to check off the list. We'd already done a school play, we'd already lost a first tooth, and we'd already had our first fist fight....it was time to throw on some frigging floaties and get down to business!!

Mason couldn't wait to get into the water. He was so excited I thought he was going to pee himself. And he did, in the pool...he told his entire class. As for Boogie...well...he's not so much a fish in the water as he is a CAT in the water. This is how he spent his ONE and ONLY swim class....

Like a terrified kitty up in a tree. It broke my heart that he was so scared, but at the same time I couldn't help but laugh at this picture. He was NOT going in that water and there was no talking him into it. Trust me, I tried. I sweet talked, I bribed, I threatened, I begged. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

So with one class under his belt Boogie has officially 'thrown in the towel'. HA!! Get it?! The towel?! Swim...yeah..anyway. But, at least I get to check it off my list. And Mason still gets to pee in the pool, so it's pretty much a win-win.

pee ess- don't forget to enter the giveaway!!!

  3. Don't feel too bad. My son was terrified of the water and would scream and cry and cling to the sides of the pool. He's 19 now and still doesn't like swimming. Some kids just don't.

  4. I feel like I can completely remember a very similar moment from my childhood.

  5. I started Hayden in swim lessons this week too. He is a fish, totally LOVE the water. Listening to his teacher and not splashing the other kids, now that is some he needs to work on.

  6. Here's the thing. We had swimming lessons when I was his age. I wouldn't even get close enough to the water to sit where he was. LOL

  10. Poor Boogie! That's terrible to be sooooo scared! Mason is just an old chip off the block huh? Daddy must be so proud! Why are men always so proud of boys peeing everywhere but the toilet? These are the questions that boggle my mind.

  12. Aw, that picture of Boogie reminds me of the swim class where they taught us how to dive. Like really dive, head-first, off of a big-kid diving board. I stood at the edge of the board, staring down into the water, frozen. Just. Couldn't. Do. It. Other than that, I was a fish and loved swimming though, and I was rather good at it.

Boogie will find some other non-water sport that he enjoys!

  18. This picture is PRICELESS! Hahahaha! But seriously, poor little guy, he'll warm up to the idea eventually though. Logan was kind of scared at first so we just threw him in. I know, we're such kind parents. Once he was in (and stopped crying) he realized it was fun and now we can't get him out of the pool. Just a thought...

  23. I am putting my 2-yr old son in swim lessons this summer and I hope he loves it. When I was little, I took swim lessons at the local YMCA and for some reason, there was a giant Tweety Bird painted on the bottom of the pool. That thing scared me so bad that I wouldn't get in!

  27. Oh poor Boogie, but that is a great picture! I hated swimming too, I eventually took the lessons, but I am more of a lay by the pool rather than get in the pool girl :-)

  28. So funny. Don't you just love little boys???

  29. BAH!!!! that picture is hilarious! i am sure he is ok with getting in the bathtub, so why the fear of the pool? how weird!

i refused to take swimming lessons as a kid when i saw how HUMILIATED my much too-old siblings were when they tried to learn. they were probably 8 and 9 years old, learning to swim with the little ones. they were so embarrassed! ay yi yi. needless to say, i think it is good to get the little ones to swim early. i still suck at swimming -- my own fault! -- and pretty much dog paddle in the water. ha!

  30. LOL OMG that is the CUTEST thing I've ever seen! HA! Too funny about peeing in the pool and telling everyone too! *BIG GRIN* I've missed you my friend! Things have been so busy but I've not forgotten about ya! Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day! Have a great weekend! xoxoxo

  32. That pic will haunt him when he's older! Just about everyone learns to swim eventually...it might just be too soon. Could you get into the water with him and hold him for the first few lessons? That's what I had to do with Kid #1 when he started his lessons when he was 3. He had me in a death-grip for the first 3 or 4 lessons...then slooowly started to get used to it!

  33. At least he looks adorably cute hangin' out in his "tree".

I can't wait to get the boys in the water again this year!
