Alas, it's true. My baby is 6 months old and I'm really struggling with the fact that my kids are growing up. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of it, but the older they get the older I get, and that part I don't enjoy. But I have to tell you that the day that all 3 kids can wipe their own butts, without making it look like the poop fairy waved her wand over the entire bathroom, is a day I truly look forward too.
Today in particular has been a milestone day. My baby's officially 6 months. My kindergartner has one more day before he's a FIRST GRADER. And my 2 year old had his first time out today. Why don't I tell you why....
So being the fantastic mother that I am, I decided it would be a great idea to go volunteer at the kindergarten water play day. So I bust out the double stroller, pack up the younger two, and trekked to the playground. I even showered before noon! This was a big day for us. So as soon as my foot hit the playground asphalt I hear it. The bloodcurdling scream of a ticked off two year old. Sigh. Really? We just got here, I think to myself. I tried to ask him what was wrong, so I could FIX it, but Levi doesn't talk. Seriously, my child doesn't talk. He's in speech therapy, but during moments like this the only vocalization I get is ear piercing screams. I decide we should wait it out and see if his mood improves. Weird thing happened, it actually got worse, who would have thought? So for the next half hour I attempted to help out while the snot monster followed behind me oozing mucous from every pore and shrieking like a wild banshee, wiping it on every available surface, mainly my clothes. Ugh. That was it. I couldn't do it anymore. I threw the snot covered turd over my shoulder, grabbed the stroller, and marched out with my head held high, while the playground moms watched and did the mental 'tsk-tsk'. But they all saw the crazed look in my eye....no one dared say anything. I'm hardcore like that. I got the screaming pile of boogers home and plopped him in his bed. "TIME OUT" I declared in my best 'I mean business buster' voice and I shut the door and waited....and waited...and waited. Why wasn't he opening the door, crying for mommy, objecting in any way??? Instead he sat on his bed and quietly read a book for 10 min without a peep! Whatthe?? I just don't get this kid. I still have no clue what he was even crying about!
But whatever, he's happy now, and now I know that he can sit in a time out. Winner winner chicken dinner! Booya! On a happier note...here's a picture of six month old Presley...those boys don't stand a chance! And yes...daddy has lots of guns.

HAHAHA... Alicia, you have the GREATEST ability to tell a story. Oh I about died laughing, not at you, just the idea in general. HAHA. I got the teething tablets last night at Whole Foods, 5 min before they closed, and I got 4 hours of sleep last night! (Sweet mother of pearl)... I'm ALIVE! haha That whole time out business is AMAZING. Who'd a known! :)Oh yeah, what's your email? I'll send you an invite so that you can post on the new blog if you want :)
ReplyDeleteLevi Levi Levi... got to love him. Lol. Presley can't be six months old! Not yet! Come on have another one...for me?
ReplyDeleteIn class I've learned with Levi as long as I hang him upside down, he is totally happy... doesn't work with the other kids though...
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwe.....She's B-E-A-utiful! Good thing Daddy's down with threats and intimidation....he's gonna need 'em.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Levi's fit...It must be the age. Syd threw down on the floor at Costco yesterday. I had to wrangle her AND her pizza cut up into little pieces to the car because she wouldn't stop and old ladies were giving me the evil eye. She was screaming, I HATE MY FOOD! and then wailing laying on the FILTHY floor, doing that whole boneless thing when I tried to pick her up.
She's been doing time-outs for a while now though because she's got an attitude the size of Texas.
Dare I tell you that I was just like Levi when I was younger?! My mom still tells the story about how I flew a huge fit in the mall and nothing she did stopped it...ahh, memories :)
ReplyDeleteOh she is such a cutie!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! That was too good! Wow! You need to write a book cuz you're hard core like that!
ReplyDeleteHis FIRST time out? I'm impressed. My kids started time out at a year and a half. I give birth to very..erm..spirited children.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so precious!!
She is such a little cutie. I always wanted my kids to be born at six months, but then I realized without all the newborn stuff I wouldn't have appreciated the joys of a 6-month-old. I know you're enjoying her and I LOVE those little dimples!
ReplyDeleteYes time does go very very quickly. My oldest will be a middle schooler in two days:0!
ReplyDeleteAs for the two year old, it sounds to me like he was trying to tell you " I want to go home and spend some quiet time reading a book!":) You read him perfectly! You're a great mom!
Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteThose DIMPLES! Presley is too cute. Levi sounds.....TWO! This, too, shall pass.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you guys next week!
OMG, I just love how you PERFECTLY describe a mother's average day out with the kids...it's never how they portray it in movies. Which often makes one think they are doing something wrong. How nice it is to read someone saying those things I think about as my kids run roughshod over me.
ReplyDeleteI can especially relate to the poop fairy..omg, that made me laugh outloud. I'm still waiting for that to happen and my kids are 6, 8, 13, and 15!
Maybe when I'm a gramma..
LOOOOVE your blog!
Cheers
Jackie
