I officially hate my bowels and greatly dislike Dr. X. But on the bright side, I'm not on this journey alone (more on that later). So it's been almost 3 weeks since Dr. X rained on my parade and laid the smack down on my bowels. Since finding out I have IBS, am lactose intolerant, and have allergies to seafood I've totally re-vamped my diet. Oh, did I mention I'm not a meat eater? Thankfully
I've stopped having spontaneous hothole things have gotten a lot better in some areas. BUT...and there's always a but...other symptoms are still showing and I've been so bloated that I look 6 months pregnant! No joke.

So another chat with the doctor and guess what he says....I HAVE ALLERGIES TO GLUTEN!! You're kidding, right?! No. Not kidding. Curses bad words and more curses. But
because I don't have any friggin choice like the good girl I am I followed Dr. X's orders and today was my first official day 100% gluten free (and dairy and every other delicious food in the world). And you know what? It was faaaabulous! No bloating, no crazy trips to the porcelain throne, no hot mustard gas. Maybe I should write Dr. X a thank you card, with love, from my bowels.
It's been an adjustment switching over to a pretty strict vegan diet, but I'll have to admit I feel so much healthier! Plus my kids are totally eating so much better too! And I don't think I've ever eaten so much
rabbit food fruits and veggies in my entire life. Luckily I live close to several health food markets so I've been able to
spend a buttload of money find some awesome vegan products so that I can actually eat something other than lettuce.
The bright side to this....due to what I found out at the doctor, a friend of mine recently went in to her doctor because she had been experiencing similar symptoms and never knew that there was a cause behind it until I got diagnosed. Guess what? She's allergic too!! At least we get to
starve together find new great foods together, like this organic gluten-free non-dairy rice dream "ice cream" I'm eating right now! Whoop whoop! So thanks for all the kind words and suggestions! If any of you happen to have some vegan recipes you'd like to share I would love to try them out!!
On a random note...did anyone catch America's Got Talent?! AWESOME!! Of course it's awesome, the Hoff is on it...he's such a dreamboat..
.swoon.
Jillian, will you accept this rose?
ROTFL! We must have the same innards (ew!) I do too and lactose intolerant and IBC ROCK ON BABY!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do it... well i guess you have no choice, I 'm allergic to wheat too... I FEEL your pain, well, not anymore, I don't eat anything whole wheat... if I do, yikes!! I 1 out my 2 whole.
ReplyDeleteIt feels great to discover the source of a medical problem. That's how I felt after my Bipolar Disorder diagnosis because then I could get what I needed to quit riding my rollercoaster life.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am aware I am not allergic to anything, but since my marriage, I always tried to eat healthy more than before. I still eat some meat but anyways....If i find soemthing vegan I will let you know
ReplyDeleteWhoa. So glad they figured out what's going on and that you are feeling better on the new diet.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the food stuff. Once you get adjusted I bet you'll find some great tasting stuff.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better! I'm not sure how you are giving up all those delicious foods! more power to you!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got it figured our and hoping you feel better really soon too!!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS--Hope you have a great Wednesday!!

ReplyDeleteNow you and Mama Kat can have some chats about gluten. :)
I can't imagine having that. I'd do awful on that diet unless I could still have my carbs. But you don't eat meat? Wow - I am a meat & potatoes kind of gal.
And 6 months? That's what you would look like 6 months pregnant? That's me at like 2 weeks! lol
And don't worry about the gift not getting sent; I still think you're super sweet to be sending one anyway. I look forward to it. :)
oh that sucks -to find all that out as an adult??
ReplyDeletehere's to feeling better! ok I have to chuckle about the Hoff (I ddint know that about you)-I was thinking he looked hung over last night :):)
Ya know, since you started posting about these issues you have been having I have been giving serious thought to getting these things checked out for me, too. I have so many of the same symptoms. I just LOATHE going to the doctor. I am considering just slowly cutting out dairy and wheat from my diet for a time then slowly introduce some it back in. If the symptoms go away when I don't have those things and come back when I do, well, then I guess it will be a more vegan way of life for me, too!
ReplyDeleteGlad you figured it out!! There are so many great recipes out there too, seriously:)
ReplyDeleteAnd whoa, you can't bust out the Hoff without warning me. I almost fainted from the hotness.
I'm reading your post and I'm thinking, "Wow, what's left for her to eat?!" lol Way to take the bowels by the horns and get to eating better! I'm started on a rabbit food, dirt and twigs diet myself...
ReplyDeleteBack off Hoff...Jillian belongs to Ed! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are finding things to eat with the new diet restrictions. I hate being bloated. Right now I have alot of fluid in my legs...driving me nuts and if I would just get up off my butt and walk and exercise it would go away!
yikes. that would be a tough diet for me! good luck. i am glad you are finding things to eat. i do have a vegan french toast recipe, if you want it. i don't know the deal with the gluten free diet and all, but i'll be happy to share it with you! it's a coconut banana french toast that's vegan. it's deeelish!
ReplyDeleteYeah so now you get to be that bloat free skinny assed chick at the gym who looks down on us rolly polly girls with smug judgement (oooh where did that come from, envious much? he he)... nah I'll just think of you whilst I eat that big honking quesadilla. Just joking. Don't forget to try Trader Joe's deary, they've got some GREAT gulten free non-dairy vegan stuff.. MUCH better than boca products. And suprisingly cheap too.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you found out what is wrong and gluten free is helping! My sis has the same allergies so It has been interesting figuring out what she can eat. I will have to look into it more myself b/c i have major tummy issues too! good luck :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do it because I would be starving. Carbs (lots of gluten), seafood, ice cream...all in my top 10 favorite things to eat.
ReplyDeleteA few months ago I was reading a magazine article about gluten allergies and I had never even heard of it. Well, they listed all the common symptoms and it sounded just like my mom. I told her she should get tested for it, but she refuses. I know its because she knows if the results come back she's allergic to gluten, she'll have to cut out so many of her favorite foods. Denial.
So glad that you're feeling better and you have someone who's going through this with you :)
I was feeling bad for you since you have to miss out on a lot of the deliciousness in this world...
ReplyDeleteThen you had to go and call The Hoff a dreamboat. Ewww. Way to make me not want to eat either.
FOR THE RECORD!! I hope you all know I don't REALLY think Le Hoff is a dreamboat...quite the opposite...but it's so fun to call him a dreamboat...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that you're not able to indulge anymore :( BUT I am glad you feel better... sucks that all the GOOD healthy stuff costs so much though, I definitely understand that!
ReplyDeleteI am so worried. I mean I am glad that you are feeling better but what if this happens to me. Could I really give up chocolate and wine. There's hoping my iron stomach stays that way.
ReplyDeletewish I were bloated. mine is actual fat.
ReplyDeletealso? wish I hadn't seen the Hoff sans shirt before breakfast.
I do love America's Got Talent, though!
LMAO at above!! lol I wish mine were bloat too. But alas, no, its the Chipotle burriots, Burgers, cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream, and... several times a week. Ta-da FAT!! Grrr. Ill tell you what though, when you find a ballance thats right for you it IS amazing how healthy you feel without all that garbage. Im not patient enough for all that vegan stuff though. Sheesh. Good luck girlie!! Love ya sis!
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be tough! I don't envy you! have been eating nothing but gross crap since TBS started and am really starting to feel like a fat lump. I need to get back on the rabbit food train. I often find myself dishing up healthy vegan recipes, I'll be sure to send them your way as I come across them. I know whfoods.com is a really great site with superhealthy easy recipes (I'm not 100% sure it's .com, it might be .org - you can just google World's Healthiest Foods).
ReplyDeleteEnjoy that rice dream!
you are hilarious...while i don't envy the food restrictions you have on you...making light of it for all of to read stinkin makes my day!!
ReplyDeleteGosh there is not much left to eat when you take out meat, dairy and anything with gluten lol.
ReplyDeleteI think I have the same thing but am too afraid to see my doctor because I don't want to give any of my delicious foods up! Sad.
ReplyDeleteWow, you really have a challenge on your hands! You'll figure things out and you'll get so creative in what you eat. Rock on girl! You can do it!
ReplyDeleteOh Admit it, you are all over Hoff, that's the only reason you watch the show!! We won't judge! I Promise!
ReplyDeleteI don't do meat, or pork, but dang you can't eat Chicken or turkey? I do have some lovely recipes for a Tomato Watermellon salad, or even a blueberry spinach salad if you are interested! I'll send them on over and you can post them after you try them, if they are worthy of sharing! haha
I'm sorry to hear about all of that! I suffered through a bunch of stomach issues for two years, but I randomly healed. Isn't that weird?
ReplyDeleteI went from trips to the ER with blood coming out of weird places to being perfectly fine.
Let's hope that things at least get better for you!
Hilarious. I found your sister in laws website through SITS and have been following her. I linked to your site through her blog about you nominating her. This is a great blog, OMG my rabbit totally has IBS, no joke. Cost me $200 to get him diagnosed, he only cost me $40, but we love him. Anyway, I know what it's like to totally change your diet. It's hard, but it pays off becuase you do feel better. A lot of my family is diabetic, so I know how hard it is to find special foods. I think it's great now a days most grocery stores carry great food. Anyway take care. Visit my blog if you have time.
ReplyDeleteIt must feel so great to have a problem diagnosed and to feel better!
ReplyDeleteoh -- and i'm a diehard 'got talent' fan. gotta love the hoff!!! <3
ReplyDeletethe picture of the Hoff is so funny! Only you would post something like that!
ReplyDeleteLove ya girl
Hope you feel better :]
Samantha
You crack me up! I'm so glad you are feeling less "crappy!" Ha ha, now I crack myself up! The Hoff....oy.
ReplyDeletemacey
Tag you're it...check my blog for rules :)-
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you are feeling better. I'll have some of the delicious foods that you can't eat on your name. :P
ReplyDeletehope u start feeling much better

Seriously, reading your posts on this stuff is like listening to my friend. She is the same - she has so many allergies and IBS and also endometriosis (spelling is SO wrong I know) and sometimes her stomach swells so much she honestly looks like she's about to drop a baby. She is in loads of pain too and the only thing that would take it away and stop swelling is a hysterectomy and the docs won't give her one because she is only 22, its a lose lose situation. :(

Popping over from SITS...
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot to go through. So have you been diagnosed with Siliac's disease, or is it just major allergies? That's rough, but I love that you're finding the positive in it all. Keep us up to date on your progress and major lifestyle change. :-)
That is some tough love from the Doc..but glad you have a friend to commiserate with! I would send the Hoff if I could...I am sure he has a cure. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have IBS too. I got diagnosed about 7 years ago and it's very manageable now. Thank God. Because I still eat stuff I shouldn't. Especially since I have one less organ - my gallbladder.
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you that I'm jealous? Yeah, I am. I wish I had the need (or willpower...whatever) to be on a strict vegan diet. I've been a vegetarian for 16 years and tried to go vegan, but it was so overwhelming. But maybe I can get tips from you now :)
ReplyDeleteUgh! If I couldn't have dairy I would die!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not allergic to any foods or have tummy problems.
I'm sorry you do though.
Oh, you poor thing! A friend of Ella Numera Una's has the gluten thing, which was pretty inconvenient for a college student...no beer! But she's been really good about re-vamping her diet. Hope everything works out for you!
ReplyDeleteSo so glad you went to the doc to figure this out. *High five* and also, *gigglesnort* @ hot mustard gas. bwahaha.
ReplyDeleteI love this blog http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/. And there is a diet called the Furhman (sp?) diet that's basically just a fat free gluten free vegan diet. Should check them out! Good luck
ReplyDeleteThe Hoff makes me giggle.
ReplyDeleteI actually have a crush on Piers Morgan. He scares me a little bit though.
I think I just threw up a little at the idea of not eating any meat LOL
ReplyDeleteMy poor, meat-loving brother....just kidding. Glad to hear you're finding relief by cutting out what ails you.
ReplyDeleteI love rice dream. They have it at Chick-Fil-A!
Sorry to giggle but this was funny!!! So glad you are feeling better - that's the important thing!! Hugs!
